KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Technical Governance
• Own and maintain Virtua UK’s technical standards, method statements, and procedures for jointing and
cable laying activities across LV and HV systems.
• Conduct technical audits and site inspections to verify compliance with NERS, DNO, and relevant industry
standards (including ENA, ESQCR, and applicable BS standards).
• Review and approve jointing and cable installation records, test results, and completion documentation
before sign-off.
• Identify and close out non-conformances, issuing corrective actions and tracking resolution through to
completion.
• Support the continuous development of Virtua UK’s NERS Quality Management System (QMS) as it relates to
jointing scope.
NERS Qualified Supervisor
• Act as the named NERS Qualified Supervisor for the jointing and cable laying scope of Virtua UK’s NERS
accreditation.
• Maintain personal competency and qualification currency in line with NERS scheme requirements, including
relevant jointing certifications.
• Liaise directly with NERS auditors and assessors during audits and surveillance visits.
• Ensure all operatives carrying out jointing activities are appropriately authorised and that competency
records are current and complete.
People Management
• Line manage and provide day-to-day direction to site supervisors overseeing jointing and cable laying
operations.

• Conduct regular one-to-ones, performance reviews, and on-site mentoring to develop supervisor
capability.
• Support recruitment, onboarding, and competency sign-off for new jointing operatives and supervisors.
• Co-ordinate workloads across the supervisor team to align with project programmes and resource
requirementsCommercial & Operational Support
• Collaborate with the project and estimating teams to review jointing scope during tender and
pre-construction stages, flagging technical risk and method requirements early.
• Contribute to client-facing technical submissions, including method statements, risk assessments, and
quality plans.
• Attend project handover and start-up meetings to ensure jointing-related requirements are clearly
communicated to site teams.
• Support investigation and close-out of any defects or failures related to jointing or cable installation
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Qualifications — Essential
• NERS-recognised jointing qualifications appropriate to the scope (LV and/or HV as applicable).
• Current and valid NERS Qualified Supervisor status, or demonstrably eligible and committed to achieving
this.
• Full UK driving licence.
Qualifications — Desirable
• HV jointing certifications (11kV or above).
• IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent health and safety qualification.
• First Aid at Work.
Experience — Essential
• Significant hands-on experience in LV/HV cable jointing and cable laying in a utility or ICP environment.
• Demonstrable experience supervising or managing jointing operatives in the field.
• Familiarity with DNO standards, ENA Engineering Recommendations, and ESQCR compliance.
• Experience working within a NERS-accredited business or in support of NERS audits.
Experience — Desirable
• Prior involvement in developing or maintaining a QMS for jointing activities.
• Experience in an ICP or contestable works environment.
Competencies
• Strong technical judgement with the ability to make clear decisions under pressure.
• Effective communicator — able to translate technical requirements clearly to both field operatives and
senior management.
• Commercially aware and capable of balancing quality governance with programme and cost constraints.
• Self-motivated and disciplined in record-keeping and compliance documentation
